The following is a sampling of other assignments that earth-water Concepts inc. and its staff have completed. While we do not undertake all of the types of projects listed below, they are projects that our staff have been directly responsible for in the past, and are listed here to give you a richer understanding of our capabilities.

Water supply investigations and development

  • Assist in water quality monitoring and evaluation of alternatives for a private surface water supply to approximately 350 homes (confidential client).
  • Resource evaluation, exploration and development of a 5,200 m3/day (800 gpm) groundwater supply for the Point Aconi power generating station, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.
  • Exploration, testing, development and permitting for new groundwater supply for a community of 180 homes in central Nova Scotia (confidential client).
  • Groundwater resource evaluation for a fresh water source to supply aquaculture and proposed fish nursery operations, Pubnico, Nova Scotia.
  • Exploration, testing, development and permitting for new groundwater supply for a 72 unit condominium development project in Chester, Nova Scotia.
  • Preliminary groundwater exploration for a proposed mineral water therapeutic spa at Oxford, Nova Scotia.
  • Preliminary groundwater exploration for possible expansion of an existing mineral water bottler in the Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia.
  • Exploration for salt-water groundwater supplies, including geophysical surveys, for proposed land based aquaculture projects on the Eastern and South shores of Nova Scotia.

  • Investigation for a well supply affected by salt-water intrusion due to blasting and land use change, Halifax, Nova Scotia.
  • Investigate blasting and construction trenching impacts on numerous water well supplies for insurance companies, Halifax, Bedford, Sackville and Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.  
  • Geologic and hydrogeologic components of the environmental impact assessment for a fluidized bed coal ash disposal site for a proposed power generating station at Sheet Harbour, Nova Scotia.
  • Geology and hydrogeology review of over 30 proposed sites in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland, and review of the final site selection criteria, for a proposed mobile PCB incinerator project in Atlantic Canada.
  • Geologic mapping, groundwater risk assessment and groundwater monitoring well design for the Lincolnville landfill, Nova Scotia landfill.
  • Geologic mapping and groundwater risk assessments for a new landfill and for an existing landfill expansion (confidential client).
  • Assessment of risks to groundwater at two municipal garbage incinerators and associated ashfill in Annapolis County, versus risks to groundwater for disposing of the same waste at the first generation Clare landfill, Nova Scotia; preparation of evidence for litigation.
  • Annual review of water sample results for surface water and groundwater collected at the Beech Hill Landfill, Antigonish County, Nova Scotia.
  • Evaluation for adequacy of design and construction by others, and redesign of the surface water and groundwater monitoring system at the evaporative discharge for leachate treatment at the Chester municipal landfill.
  • Subsurface investigation, product plume containment, recovery and site remediation of a 20,000 litre fuel oil spill that was impinging upon one half or the municipal groundwater supply for the Town of Truro, Nova Scotia.
  • Hydrogeological assessment in preparation for a litigation defence regarding allegations of impacts on a nearby well from lumber yard operations in Brookfield, Nova Scotia.
  • Hydrogeological assessments, remediation design and implementation (dig and dump, pump and treat, vapour extraction, enhanced in-situ biotreatment) at approximately 180 service station, bulk fuel distribution and residential petroleum spill sites throughout Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island.
  • Design and installation of the groundwater monitoring system at the Canso Chemicals manufacturing plant landfill at Abercrombie Point, Nova Scotia.
  • Evaluation for adequacy of design and construction of a groundwater monitoring system at a waste paper board composting facility, Louisiana Pacific, East River, Nova Scotia.
  • Design and installation of groundwater monitoring systems and groundwater sample collection at the Sydney Tar Ponds brownsite in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.

Phase I, II and III environmental site assessments

  • Phase I and II assessments for banks at numerous residential and commercial properties throughout Nova Scotia.
  • Phase I and II site assessments of Department of Defence armoury properties in Pictou, Nova Scotia and at Bathurst, New Brunswick.
  • Phase I and II environmental assessment for the federal government of the Sydport Industrial Park in North Sydney, Nova Scotia.
  • Phase I and II site assessments for the federal government at Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Shelburne, CFB Point Edwards and Canadian Forces Station Barrington, Nova Scotia.
  • Phase I and II site assessments for the Canadian Coast Guard at Partridge Island (former immigration quarantine station).

  • Design of a waste oil management plan for Canadian Forces Base Gagetown, New Brunswick
  • Preparation of specifications and tendering documents for decommissioning and remediation of petroleum and PCB contaminated sites at Canadian Forces Station Barrington, Nova Scotia.
  • Preparation of a decommissioning study plan for surface and subsurface structures at the Lingan coal mine in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.
  • Soil corrosivity testing near underground storage tanks at the Halifax, Charlo, Saint John, Deer Lake, Gander and Stephenville airports.
  • Site assessment and review of site remediation activities at a former Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island bulk fuel plant under consideration for purchase by the Federal Government.
  • Review for Transport Canada of other consultant assessment reports and remediation plans for airport fire fighter training facilities located at Yarmouth and Sydney, Nova Scotia, at Stephenville, Newfoundland and at Mirabel, Quebec.
